The name “New Yor-Uba” pays homage to the genealogy of ancient Yoruba music culture from Nigeria through Cuba to present-day New York. A versatile musician\, Rosewoman has performed with jazz artists such as Jimmy Heath\, Freddie Waits\, Billy Hart\, Billy Harper\, Reggie Workman\, Gary Bartz\, John Stubblefield\, Rufus Reid\, and Ralph Peterson. Her compositions are noted for their polyrhythmic sound and seamlessly blending jazz\, funk\, and Cuban folkloric music. Rosewoman’s ensembles have received critical acclaim from publications such as Downbeat magazine\, NPR\, Gavin Report\, Jazz Times\, NY Times\, Amsterdam News\, The Wall Street Journal\, and the Latin Jazz Network.
