SUMMARY:Sonny Fortune
DESCRIPTION:Saxophonist\, flutist\, and multi-reed player Sonny Fortune is a progressive musician with a harmonically aggressive style who came to prominence as a member of trumpeter Miles Davis’ fusion groups of the ’70s. Born in Philadelphia in 1939\,Fortune attended the Wurlitzer and Granoff music schools and performed with local R&B bands in his teens. Influenced early on by such players as Charlie Parker\, Sonny Rollins\, and John Coltrane\, Fortune was 18 before he decided to pursue a career in music exclusively. In 1967 he moved to New York City and quickly found work with several name artists\, including drummer Elvin Jones and percussionist Mongo Santamaria\, with whom he would play for two years. \nTO GET TICKETS CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Jazz on the Avenue of the Arts
DESCRIPTION:The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts in conjunction with the Brandywine Workshop and Archives will be presenting a series of FREE evening outdoor and indoor concerts during the Democratic National Convention\, July 25–27\, 2016. \nTitled “Jazz on the Avenue\, The Lawn Party\,” these concerts will spotlight both the talented veterans as well as the up-and-coming artists who comprise the Philadelphia Jazz Community. The concerts will be presented in two parts: all evening performances will take place outdoors on the Brandywine Plaza\, an outdoor space\, beginning at 8:00 PM and running through 12:00 midnight. The second phase\, “Jazz in The Blue Note Hall” will run from 12:00 AM to 1:30 AM. \nIn case of rain all performances will take place in The Blue Note Hall.
