The event itself will be free\, but modest contributions will be accepted and attendees will be given the opportunity to become a member of the Philadelphia Clef Club. DESCRIPTION:The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts in conjunction with the Brandywine Workshop and Archives will be presenting a series of FREE evening outdoor and indoor concerts during the Democratic National Convention\, July 25–27\, 2016. \nTitled “Jazz on the Avenue\, The Lawn Party\,” these concerts will spotlight both the talented veterans as well as the up-and-coming artists who comprise the Philadelphia Jazz Community. The concerts will be presented in two parts: all evening performances will take place outdoors on the Brandywine Plaza\, an outdoor space\, beginning at 8:00 PM and running through 12:00 midnight. SUMMARY:Sonny Fortune
DESCRIPTION:Saxophonist\, flutist\, and multi-reed player Sonny Fortune is a progressive musician with a harmonically aggressive style who came to prominence as a member of trumpeter Miles Davis’ fusion groups of the ’70s. Born in Philadelphia in 1939\,Fortune attended the Wurlitzer and Granoff music schools and performed with local R&B bands in his teens. Influenced early on by such players as Charlie Parker\, Sonny Rollins\, and John Coltrane\, Fortune was 18 before he decided to pursue a career in music exclusively. In 1967 he moved to New York City and quickly found work with several name artists\, including drummer Elvin Jones and percussionist Mongo Santamaria\, with whom he would play for two years. \nTO GET TICKETS CLICK HERE

DESCRIPTION:In the 1950s\, Dale Turner (Dexter Gordon)\, a gifted black saxophonist with a drinking problem\, leaves behind New York and his estranged family and relocates to Paris. There he plays for a progressive\, jazz-loving audience without being judged by his race\, and ages quietly in peace. Not intending to turn away from his vices\, Dale nonetheless becomes the project of a French fan (François Cluzet) who tries to help him fight his alcoholism\, ultimately inspiring both Dale and his music.

Balancing both worlds of performance and education\, it is understood why this touring artist and full-time professor (at the Berklee School of Music)\, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Spelman College in Atlanta\, GA\, (Magna Cum Laude) and Master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder (Summa Cum Laude)\, was selected to be a member of the all-female band touring with R&B star\, Beyoncé. As part of the I AM..Sasha Fierce and Beyoncé Experience World Tour promoting the superstar’s CD’s\, where Tia has played in various venues throughout the US\, Europe\, Africa\, Asia and Australia.
