He also is a professor at the New School’s College of Performing Arts in New York City\, where he has been teaching since 1987. \nWorkman started on piano at first but eventually settled on bass by high school while growing up in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. After working with Freddie Cole and Gigi Gryce throughout 1958\, he became a member of the John Coltrane Quartet in 1961\, participating in such legendary recordings as Live at the Village Vanguard\, My Favorite Things\, and Africa/Brass. From 1962 to 1964\, Workman played in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers with one of the great lineups for the band. He then worked with Yusef Lateef’s group before becoming the go-to bassist for Blue Note records throughout the 1960s and early 1970s due to his ability to play in any style. He appeared on many recordings for Booker Ervin\, Abbey Lincoln\, Lee Morgan\, Max Roach\, Archie Shepp\, Wayne Shorter\, and Mal Waldron\, among others. He also worked with many of the major players in avant-garde jazz\, such as Marilyn Crispell\, Andrew Hill\, Jeanee Lee\, Butch Morris\, David Murray\, Sam Rivers\, and Cecil Taylor. \nWorkman led his own groups—the Reggie Workman Ensemble and Top Shelf—as well as appearing in collaborative groups\, such as the Super Jazz Trio with pianist Tommy Flanagan and drummer Joe Chambers\, Trio 3 with saxophonist Oliver Lake and drummer Andrew Cyrille\, and Brew with drummer Gerry Hemingway and kotoist Miya Masaoka.\nWorkman branched out into the production side of music\, such as staging the Artists Alliance series in 1985 and later the Sculptured Sounds Music Festival\, an artist-driven festival of futuristic concepts in music as well as physical theater productions. He launched the African-American Legacy Project\, a celebration of the legacy of African-American composers that participated in workshops and concerts at Lincoln Center and the Harlem School for the Arts\, and presented selections of John Coltrane’s Africa/Brass sessions. \nIn 1970\, Workman cofounded the historic Collective Black Artists\, and in 1990 cofounded MADLOM\, a nonprofit performing arts laboratory for students from three to 18 in age. While growing up\, Wilkins honed his skills in the church and studied in programs dedicated to teaching jazz music like the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts. After moving to New York in 2015\, he proceeded to earn his bachelor’s degree in Music at Juilliard (studying with the saxophonists Bruce Williams and the late great Joe Temperley) while simultaneously establishing himself as in demand sideperson\, touring in Japan\, Europe\, South America. The United Arab Emirates\, and the United States and working and or recording with artists like Jason Moran\, the Count Basie Orchestra\, Delfeayo Marsalis\, Joel Ross\, Aaron Parks\, Gerald Clayton\, Gretchen Parlato\, Lalah Hathaway\, Solange Knowles\, Bob Dylan\, and Wynton Marsalis to name just a few. It was also during this same period that he formed his quartet featuring his long-time bandmates: Micah Thomas (piano) Daryl Johns (bass) and Kweku Sumbry (drums). \nBeing a bandleader with a working group for over four years has allowed Wilkins to grow both as a composer and as an arranger- and has led to him receiving a number of commissions including most recently\, from the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. The Jazz Gallery Artist Residency Commission Program (A collaboration with Sidra Bell Dance NY\, 2020) and The Kimmel Center Artist in Residence for 2020 (a collaboration with photographer Rog Walker and videographer David Dempewolf). Being emerged in the scene at a young age and sharing the stage with various jazz masters has inspired Wilkins to pursue his goal of being a positive force in both music and in society. This includes quite an impressive resume as an educator. In addition to teaching at NYU and the New School\, he has taught and given master classes and clinics at schools/venues like Oberlin\, Yale and the Kimmel Center. Ultimately\, Wilkins mission is to create music and to develop a voice that has a profound spiritual and emotional impact. \nBy studying the humanity and the cultural specificity of jazz\, Wilkins aspires to bring people together through his art. His debut recording\, Omega – produced by Jason Moran – was released by Blue Note Records in 2020 and has received uniformly rave reviews. In addition to bring voted- Best Debut Jazz Recording of 2020 and the New York Times number one Jazz Recording of 2020. Wilkins began 2021 on a very positive note. He was nominated for a NAACP Image Award of (Best Jazz Instrumental album) and won the prestigious LetterOneRising Stars Jazz Award. Currently\, Fuller balances the worlds of performance and education\, magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Spelman College in Atlanta\, GA\, and summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. fulfilling a demanding schedule as both a busy touring\, recording artist and a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. \nHer touring accolades include being selected to be a member of the Beyonce’s All-Female band; where she appeared on the Today Show\, Good Morning America\, The Ophrah Winfrey Show\, The Ellen Show\, The Grammy’s\, World Music Awards and many others. In addition\, this Mack Avenue Recording artist has recorded five full-length projects with her quartet. Her most recent album\, Diamond Cut\, received a Grammy nomination in the Best Instrumental Jazz category; produced by three-time Grammy Award winner Terri Lyne Carrington\, and legendary bassist\, Dave Holland and drummer\, Jack Dejohnette. He received his BM from the Eastman School and MA from New York University. Since then he has made quite the name for himself performing\, recording and touring with a plethora of artists including Mos Def\, James Newton\, Christian McBride\, Dionne Reeves\, Philip Bailey\, Jeffrey Osborne\, Steve Coleman\, Rave Coltrane\, the Migus Big Band\, Rochester Pops Orchestra and the Jose Limon Dance Company. He was part of the Christian McBride Big Band’s Grammy winning album\, “The Good Feeling” and performed with them at the White House for President Barack Obama. \n\n\nNabaté Isles’ varied career has taken him from the halls of the Eastman School of Music to the sports arena and back.  As a trumpet soloist with Christian McBride\, Nabaté is coming off a recent Grammy win – the band’s second win. Friends and band mates for close to 40 years\, Jimmy & Tony have always loved this music from a early age. This music was passed down from their parents in the 1950’s and 60’s.  The band performs the music of the Big 3; Tito Puente\, Tito Rodriguez\, and Machito. The 21 piece Mambo Big Band is dedicated to preserve the arrangements\, dance\, and styles of this era. In his hands\, the sonic palette of an instrument often associated with cruise ships and tropical resorts is radically expanded to mimic the role of horns\, piano\, vibraphone or marimba due to his stunning\, virtuosic technique. Scales’ mesmerizing compositions have captivated listeners and elevated him to the status of a true composer\, forging new territory in the medium of instrumental music. \nAlthough Scales’ writing produces songs that are ultimately accessible and danceable\, the compositions can be remarkably complex and difficult to perform. As a result\, the power trio whimsically named Jonathan Scales Fourchestra has always had a fluid lineup top-notch musicians\, and even included an “all-star” version with bassist MonoNeon (Prince\, Ghost Note)\, drummer Robert “Sput” Searight (Snarky Puppy\, Snoop Dogg) and percussionist Weedie Braimah (Trombone Shorty\, Nth Power)\, as well as a number of other talented marquee value players. Whereas Scales’ talent and creativity could have been focused on other instruments he studied\, such as saxophone\, he fell in love with the sound of the steel pans. Hearing Béla Fleck’s transformative approach to the banjo had a significant\, even reassuring impact on Jonathan\, who was already independently seeking to rethink how steel pans could be played and employed in compositions. In fact\, Driftwood Magazine made a similar observation\, when it wrote that “Scales is to steel pans what Béla Fleck is to the banjo—an über innovator.” Still lurking whenever he could at Flecktones shows\, Jonathan was writing his own tasteful\, outside-the-box\, avant-garde compositions\, and independently released his first three albums while performing regionally in the Southeastern U.S.. His band was establishing a reputation as something of an outlier\, and attracted the attention of Ropeadope Records\, who released Jonathan Scales Fourchestra’s eponymous debut—fully orchestrated with horns and strings—in 2013. Monnette plays bass as well as lead guitar\, drums and various African string and/percussion instruments.
