Lovett Hines, Artistic Director/Founder of the Music Education Program, of the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, since 1985.
Through two decades at the Philadelphia Clef Club and prior at Settlement Music School, Lovett Hines was mentor to legions of Philadelphia musicians including Christian McBride, Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Kamal Grey of the Roots, Jaleel Shaw, and many more.
The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts (PCC) founded in 1966, mission is to “celebrate and preserve the legacy of jazz through accessible education for the Greater Philadelphia region, and to support the evolving art form through talent development, programming, and public performance.”
Music Education Program
The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts has a respected and successful music education program, which is commonly regarded as its most notable program offering. The Music Education Program serves numerous students annually through on-site, in-school programs and through community outreach events.
Performance Events
The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts holds twelve annual large-scale concerts of internationally renowned musicians. Guest Artists are presented in concert, as well as provide master classes to emerging artists and advance music students. Select musicians that have been presented are Charles Lloyd, saxophonist, Kenny Barron, jazz pianist, Kenny Garrett, post-bop jazz saxophonist, Tia Fuller, saxophonist and educator, Arturo O’Farrell, pianist, Miguel Zenon, alto saxophonist, Joey Defrancesco, organist, Christian McBride, bassist, Pat Martino, guitarist and many more.
