JAZZ MUSICIANS ARE MOURNING THE LEGENDS AMONG THEM WHO DIED FROM THE CONRONA VIRUS OR OTHER ILLNESS.

Jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, Jr., who died at 85 from COVID-19, was the patriarch of a legendary musical family.

Pianist and Educator Ellis Marsalis, Jr. died, April 1, 2020.  Marsalis was a towering figure of modern jazz.  Through his teaching, he became the patriarch of a musical family that extended well beyond the four sons who followed in his footsteps.  “Ellis Marsalis was a legend,” of New Orleans, where the musician spent most of his life.”  Ellis Marsalis Jr.: A Father and Mentor to Jazz Players.

A tourist riverboat calliope blasted hymn and gospel tunes across New Orleans’ French Quarter on Friday as a tribute to the late jazz pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis.

 Singer, songwriter, record producer, Bill Withers, died on March 30, 2020 from heart complications.   

Withers, who wrote and sang a string of soulful songs in the 1970s that have stood the test of time, including “Lean on Me,” “Lovely Day” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

His death comes as the public drawn inspiration from his music during the corona virus pandemic, with health care workers, choirs, artists and more posting their own renditions on “Lean on Me” to help get through the difficult times.
