Film Series: Jazz Giants of the 20th Century

May 3, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

As the name suggests, the film portrays these great jazz musicians in 17 rare, vintage performances, many of which have not been available since they were seen on television in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The film includes jazz pioneers such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Louis Armstrong; mid-century artists like Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, and Coleman Hawkins; and more progressive musicians such as Chick Corea, Grover Washington, Jr., and Herbie Hancock. The also features performances like Duke Ellington’s Creole Rhapsody (1933), Cab Calloway’s Long About Midnight (1935), Louis Armstrong’s Shine (1942), Dizzy Gillespie’s Be Bop (1946), and Herbie Hancock’s Someday My Prince Will Come (1979).

Runtime: 70 min
